New Zealand is cold!

I always thought that New Zealand would be just a tropical paradise like Hawaii haha.  Turns out I was wrong, it actually gets really cold here during the winter.  The summer is the best though.  The weather is awesome in the summer, but the winter is cold and rainy.  The rain here is something everyone needs to experience.  Back home when it rains it is usually a constant drizzle for an entire day.  In New Zealand it can go from being a beautiful sunny day, to an absolute downpour of rain.  When it rains here it dumps!  It usually isn't constant.  It will rain really hard for a while, and then it will stop.  Then it will rain really hard for a while and then stop.  This cycle continues for weeks!  It has been a pretty wet week this week.  One of the days this week Elder Saurey and I were out on the bikes and we got drenched.  Funny enough I'm usually more motivated to work hard when I'm biking in the rain, then when I'm sitting in the car and then have to get out in the rain.  I love biking; it has become one of our favorite things to do.  Missionary work is so much more effective when you are either biking or when you are out walking.  It is really hard to talk to people if you are in a car.

It was another solid week of missionary work this week.  We have just been focusing on getting a teaching pool at the moment.  We have heaps of potential investigators, but not really any solid investigators.  We talk with heaps of people each week about the gospel though.  Everyone in Auckland is way more open to the gospel than any other area I have been in.  Almost everyone will stop and talk to you, and very few people get upset with us.  However, because everyone is so friendly it is really hard to find those who are actually interested in progressing in the gospel.  It's been awesome to get to share the gospel with so many people.  It's hard though because you just wish everyone would really take the time to act on our message.  We know how much it can bless their lives, but very few people are willing to act.  Faith without works is dead though!  It is definitely the hardest part of our lives acting.  We are all pretty good and saying that we have faith, but acting requires a sincere trust in Heavenly Father.

Another update on Jay and Mary: so we invited Jay and Mary to church again this Sunday, sadly they didn't come :(  However, we went over Sunday night and had an awesome lesson with them.  Mary wasn't feeling very good which is why they didn't come to church.  She also wasn't feeling too well that night so she didn't sit in on the lesson.  We were able to teach her 15 year old little sister Serina with Jay though.  We had an awesome lesson, and we taught parts of the restoration, and invited her to read The Book of Mormon.  She had a lot of really good questions and said she would be keen to read it.  We also invited her and Jay and Mary to do a 15 step stop smoking program.  I have never actually done the program, but I have read through it before, and it is way mean.  We are really excited to do the program with them and we really know it will help them accept the gospel in their lives.  We also were able to invite them to a family home evening with our new ward mission leader!!!!!!!  Elder Saurey and I are way pumped to have a new ward mission leader.  The new ward mission leader is brother Maasi.  Brother Maasi is the man!!!!!!!!! He got back from his mission within the last 5 years and is married to Bishop Leelo's daughter.  He served his mission in Salt Lake and he is Tongan.  He is way on to it though, and is going to do such a good job.  We really want to help get the members involved in missionary work and we really think that he can help us accomplish that goal.  Plus he has no kids so we think he will be able to be pretty dedicated to the calling.  We are excited to get the missionary work pumping!!!!!  Anyway, we are also really excited to have an FHE with them at Bishop Leelo's house.  We invited Jay and Mary and all of Mary's siblings to the FHE.  Mary's family is all Catholic, but we are hoping to convert the whole family.  There are heaps of them, and we have talked about the gospel with most of them!  They are the most exciting family though at the moment.  Being a missionary has really taught me patience.  I'm still far from perfect, but I feel like I have come a long way.

This morning I got a haircut from Elder Vaea which was mean.  Elder Vaea gives good haircuts, but not as good as momma Brunson's.  Also my favorite New Zealand bickie (cookie) is Ginger Nuts.  They are a hard as cookie that tastes like gingerbread haha.  My favorite New Zealand drink is Ginger Beer haha.  No it is not beer, but it tastes really nice.  Something about Ginger has got me on my mission haha.  I have even had fried ginger when I was with Elder Suriben.  I thought I would just throw in some random facts at the end of my email, because my email was really lame haha.  Lo siento!  I love you all though!  The Church is still true!

Love,

Elder Brunson

Interviews..............

We had interviews with the new mission President this week.  It was different than our normal interviews though.  Usually the whole zone gets together for interviews and we receive a training.  However, this time we just had a scheduled appointment with President Cummings at the chapel.  It's weird having a new mission president and having to adjust to the way he does things.  He is really awesome though, he is very knowledgeable in the gospel and is really kind.  I'm excited to get to know him over this next year.  I'm sure I will love him and Sister Cummings just as much as President and Sister Rudd.
What else happened this last week?  Man the weeks are going by so fast I can't even remember what happened.  This week we did some service which was good!  Elder and Sister Rowland a senior couple called us up after our weekly planning and asked us to come help them move some things out of an old missionary flat.  Elder Saurey and I are always keen to go and do some service so we went over and helped them move some beds and dressers.  The Rowlands are an awesome couple and they really appreciated the help.  Man I'm really having a hard time coming up with what has happened this last week.  All the weeks are just mixing together.  I wasn't sure if I should share this story because I don't want my mom to get mad but I can't think of anything else to talk about so I will share this funny story.  So this last week Elder Saurey and I saw this lady parked outside a house.  We were riding our bikes and we pulled up next to the car.  Elder Saurey started the conversation and was talking for a little bit, but then he kind of awkwardly stopped talking.  I was wondering what he was up to haha. Well I decided to keep the conversation going and so I kept talking to this lady.  I kept talking, but something about the conversation seemed really weird, but I couldn't put my finger on what it was.  Well I noticed at the beginning of the conversation that this lady was holding a baby.  I hadn't really paid too much attention to the baby though, but the conversation was a little awkward and I didn't know where to take it so I asked her about her baby.  Well when I looked down at the baby I realized that the lady was breast feeding her baby haha.  I was like woah man haha.  I awkwardly ended the conversation and rode off haha.  I realized that the conversation had been so awkward because she was in the middle of breast feeding and I was talking to her haha.  Elder Saurey had noticed right away and that's why he was trying to ride off.  I however, am a little slow and it took me ages to notice haha.  It's so funny what happens on the mission.
Now for a spiritual highlight of the week.  Saturday night we went out with Gups.  I'm not really sure if I have talked about Gups before, but he is the man.  Gups goes out with us almost every weekend.  He is Samoan and is 18 years old.  He is in his last year of school and is preparing to serve a mission.  He helps us out heaps though, I love him.  He stays with the Pritchard family.  The Pritchard family is a Samoan family in our ward that feeds us all the time.  Ty Pritchard was the young fella that just left for his mission from our ward.  Anyways Gups is Ty's cousin and stays with the Pritchard family.  Also our ward mission leader is named Brother Saliva and he is married to sister Pritchard’s daughter.  Brother Saliva is a convert to the church and is like 24 years old.  He is new to the gospel so it had been pretty hard for him to be the ward mission leader.  He is really awesome though and loves the missionaries.  Back to the story, so we were out with Gups and we went to try and visit a potential investigator named Dorothy.  We met Dorothy ages ago and she is a really nice Samoan girl who seemed really keen to learn.  However, we haven't been able to catch her which is really sad.  Well we went to try and see Dorothy, but she wasn't home surprise surprise.  However, a fella named Jay was home.  Jay is a less active member of the church that came up to Elder Saurey and me on the street when I first got to Manurewa.  However we never ended up seeing him for some reason and we even forgot that he stayed at that house.  Anyway we started teaching Jay and his partner Mary was kind of listening in.  He asked us if we had some scriptures to help him have more patience.  We each shared some scriptures from The Book of Mormon.  We asked Mary if she had ever heard of The Book of Mormon.  We ended up having a really awesome lesson where we explained The Book of Mormon and invited her and Jay to read and pray about the Book of Mormon.  They both said they would and even committed to come to church on Sunday.  We told them that we would find them a ride.  That night we got home and asked Brother Maasi if he could pick him up.  We talked about asking a couple different people, but decided brother and sister Maasi would be the best.  Brother Maasi is married to Bishop LeeLo's daughter.  Bishop LeeLo has 8 children and they are all girls!  I can't imagine being in his shoes.  Bishop LeeLo is the man though!  He is Samoan and hardly speaks English haha.  It is so funny when he gets up and talks to the ward.  I love him so much, their family is awesome.  Back to the story though.  Brother and sister Maasi said they would be keen as to pick them up.  We told them the names and the street where they lived.  Sunday morning Elder Saurey and I took Jay over a shirt and tie.  We were really nervous because we didn't want them to back out of coming to church.  Well we went to drop it off and he said they were getting ready to come to church.  Well church time came and Elder Saurey and I were up blessing the sacrament.  We were anxiously awaiting the arrival of Jay and Mary.  It was 10 minutes past 2 and we were really hoping they would come.  Guess what..... they came!!!!!!!!  After blessing the sacrament we went down and sat with them and brother and sister Maasi.  After sacrament we talked to them and guess what?!  Another miracle!  Brother Maasi went to pick them up and Jay said they were not coming because he didn't have church pants.  Just then Brother Maasi recognized him and it turns out they were in the same previous ward!  Brother Maasi said that Jay was coming whether he wanted to or not.  Brother Maasi ran and grabbed some church pants and brought them for him.  Also sister Maasi ended up knowing Mary from school!  It was amazing how much the Lord’s hand played in them coming to church.  It was a testimony to me that Heavenly Father truly has a hand in our lives and can fit all the pieces of the puzzle together to provide beautiful pictures and amazing miracles.  I'm so thankful for a loving Heavenly Father.  We are really excited to teach them, and hope that we can really help them to progress.  I hope you all can feel of our Heavenly Fathers love for you in your life and I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live.

Elder Brunson

Transfers week was insane!

Well we got 11 new missionaries into our zone this transfer.  Thankfully Elder Saurey is still here so I didn't have to do transfer week on my own.  Elder Saurey and I are pumped to have another transfer together.  We are really trying to get our area pumping.  It’s been pretty tough this last transfer to have people who are really interested in progressing.  We are working hard though, and I'm sure we will have a great next transfer.  This week was pretty interesting with transfers.  We had a lot of things get in the way from allowing us to do missionary work, but I guess that is just part of being a Zone Leader.  This week we had two sets of missionaries get double shifted into the zone.  One of the missionaries is Sister Parkinson who was in my last Zone and she is also training at the same time as getting double shifted in.  I felt really bad because you could tell that she was really stressed out.  Luckily they were able to get settled in though, and I think their ward is helping them out a lot.  The other set of missionaries that got double shifted in is Elder Hawkins (he was in my very first district when I was DL in Wairoa) and wait for it.......Elder Vaea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm so pumped to have Elder Vaea in the zone.  Elder Vaea and I had heaps of fun together in Waitara and it's cool to have him back.  He is so funny.  He was not too happy about being double shifted in.  What made him even more upset was the fact that they didn't have a phone or a car haha.  Also he was even more mad when we showed up to their flat and tried to plug the fridge in.  To make a long story short Elder Hawkins almost exploded himself.  They pretty much got thrown into an area with no phone, no car, and no idea about their surroundings.  I can't imagine getting double shifted into an area.  I think that would be a pretty tough job.  We helped them out as much as we could though, and I think they have settled down as well.  Guess who else is new to our zone?!  A sister missionary named sister Kearon.  Does that name ring a bell?  Well Elder Kearon just gave a mean talk in general conference on refugees.  If I can recall, it was Katie's favorite talk.  Anyway, his daughter is now in our zone!  She seems really cool, and Elder Saurey and I are dying to hear a spiritual thought from her.  We want to see if she is on to it haha.  We are guessing that she is really smart.  On Thursday it was transfer day and we pretty much spent all day picking up missionaries from the bus stop.  It was a super long day, but it was a good day.  That night we had to interview 4 people for baptism.  Elder Saurey and I each interviewed 2 people.  It was a good interview and they were all little kids in the Tongan Ward.  Saturday was my one year mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s a pretty weird feeling to have been out for a year.   The time has gone by so fast I can't even explain it.  I'm going to be going downhill now, and I'm sure I'm going to be saying goodbye to New Zealand before I know it.  I have no desire to go yet though, I still love being a missionary.  Saturday was a really good day because we also got to go on a really short exchange with the Assistants.  The Assistants came down because the Tongan Elders were baptizing 7 people!!!!  It was an awesome baptism and was a really great day.  After the baptism we went to Carl's Jr for lunch.  After lunch I got the opportunity to go out with Elder Ith.  Elder Ith is the new assistant and he is in the same intake as Elder Holmes and Elder Saurey.  He is the man!  We had a really awesome exchange!  We went and taught a lesson to a man named brother Manu!  Brother Manu is not a member, but he is the man.  The Manu family is a Samoan family that Elder Saurey and I have been trying to teach.  At first they were totally against the idea of The Book of Mormon.  However, Elder Ith and I were able to teach brother Manu by himself because his family was gone and we had a really great lesson.  We could definitely feel the spirit in his home as we taught and testified about The Book of Mormon.  We read with him from The Book of Mormon, and you could physically and spiritually see that he was opening up to the gospel.  We invited him to read and pray about The Book of Mormon and he said he would.  I love The Book of Mormon so much.  I currently just started reading The Book of Mormon over again.  This time as I go through I'm highlighting in 4 different colors.  Green- references to Jesus Christ Red- Words spoken by Christ Purple- Attributes of Christ Blue- Doctrine/Principles.  I really love studying The Book of Mormon.  It really helps me to understand that The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ.  It has helped me to focus on how much The Book of Mormon teaches of Christ.  I think everyone should take the time to do this activity and some point.  I know The Book of Mormon is true and that if we hold fast to it we can overcome any trial or any temptation that Satan throws at us.  The Book of Mormon not only teaches us how to gain peace in this life, but eternal life in the world to come.  So if you have the desire to return to live with God again, you should definitely read The Book of Mormon.  I love New Zealand and I love missionary work!

How many lives does Elder Brunson have?
Dodging death several times this week!

Transfers again?!!!!!!!  Man the mission goes by way too fast.  I hit my year mark this week!  It’s gone fast.  I can't imagine how fast this next year will go by.  I still have heaps to learn so I need to use my time wisely.  I love being a missionary though, it feels so good to be able to learn more about the gospel each day.  I can't image not being able to dedicate my whole entire day to the Lord.  This last transfer has been so weird, it feels like it has been so long, but at the same time it has flown by.  It has been really awesome being companions with Elder Saurey!  We get along great!  I feel like we have been friends for ages.  We are both clowns, so it's not too hard to get along.  I'm really hoping that he doesn't get transferred.  He has only been in the area for 1 transfer so I'm thinking that he will stay for one more transfer.  I love being companions with him so I hope he stays.  We asked my papi Elder Holmes if he was getting transferred this morning when we did our accountability with the AP's and he said that he shouldn't have to pack his bags.  We think Elder Holmes would have told us if he was going to leave.

This week has been a solid week.  So many things happened I don't even know where to start haha.  Tuesday we were able to meet the new mission president and his wife.  Elder Saurey and I had an interview with him to get to know him.  He just wanted to see how our zone was doing, and what he could do to help.  We thought that President Cummings had been a mission President before, but apparently he has not.  He is really on to it though, he was a member of the seventy so he knows what he is doing.  We can already see in a short amount of time that he will do great things for our mission.  This week we will meet with him again and have personal interviews.  The meeting with President and Sister Cummings was really good though.  They pretty much just introduced themselves to us.  We got to know a little bit about them, and they shared their testimonies with us.  They both made me want to not break a single rule ever!  President Cummings shared an amazing story about when he was on his mission and the miracles that can come from being exactly obedient.  I really loved a scripture that he shared from Doctrine and Covenants section 20 verse 11.  It reads "Behold, this is your work, to keep my commandments, yea, with all your might, mind and strength."  I think that is one of my favorite scriptures now.  I really think that is one of the biggest things I have learned, the importance of being exactly obedient!  I really have seen the blessings that come when we are obedient.  I'm far from perfect, but the times I have been exactly obedient I have seen great blessings.

This week we went on an exchange with the Tongan Elders.  I was with Elder Tuione in his area.  We had a really solid exchange!  The Tongan Elders don't have a car so it was my first day ever riding a bike for the entire day!  I didn't realize how spoiled I have been to have a car haha.  I'm now so much more thankful that I can drive.  Elder Saurey and I ride our bikes almost every day during the day, but when it is night time we always ride in the car.  Man it was really crazy riding the Tongan Elders bikes!  Their bikes are absolutely wrecked!!  First off, the bike helmet I was wearing smelt like B.O. man it was so raunchy!  The other terrible thing was the bikes we were riding practically have no brakes!!  It was insane!  There were several times that I thought we were going to die.  The brakes were so bad that you had to start breaking at the top of a hill to be able to slow down by the bottom of the hill.  There were some times that we almost got smashed by cars haha.  So I'm also thankful that I didn't die this week, and that our bikes are in working condition.  I was actually thankful that I didn't die several times this week, this being the first of my near death experiences.

My second near death experience happened this week when Elder Saurey and I were biking in our area.  We were just out on our bike and going from our different appointments for the day.  We had just gotten back on our bikes after trying to visit someone.  We had barely started going when in the distance we saw a mean dog.  The dog started barking and making all sorts of mean noises haha!  It started coming towards us and I started getting nervous.  Then all of a sudden the dog started sprinting after us!  We started pedaling hard out!  I was praying that the dog would eat Elder Saurey and not me haha.  The dog was chasing us both down, but was going more for Elder Saurey.  I really didn't want to get attacked by this dog so I pulled in to this person’s driveway hoping that the dog wouldn't follow me.  Luckily the dog stopped following me and continued to hunt down my companion.  I couldn't help but laugh as I watched my companion bike for his life.  The dog was fast and was on his tail the whole way.  Luckily Elder Saurey was able to out bike the dog.  Unfortunately though, I was now ages away from my companion and needed to be with him.  The dog was now walking and was on the opposite side of the road than me.  I was praying that the dog would not attack me.  Well I think that the Lord wanted to pay me back for laughing at my companion and guess whose turn it was to get chased?  You got it, MINE!!!  The dog started sprinting after me.  I was able to get a little head start, but soon I could feel the dog right on me.  I didn't have time to turn around to see where it was, all I could think of was to pedal.  My adrenaline was pumping so hard!!!!!  Luckily I was in a descent gear because I was so scared I would not have even had time to change the gear haha.  I can honestly say that I have never biked so hard in my entire life.  I felt like the dog chased me for 10 minutes!  Luckily the dog did not bite me and I was finally able to catch up to Elder Saurey and leave the dog in the dust.  Afterwards, Elder Saurey and I had so much adrenaline we felt like we could do just about anything.

The final near death experience came on Saturday.  Saturday morning I woke up and was feeling great.  However, after studies I was not feeling well but I was not going to let that stop me.  So Elder Saurey and I got on our bikes and headed out to work.  We spent the morning visiting some people, and I felt pretty bad.  I needed to get to the bathroom so we headed back to the flat for our lunch break.  I really was not feeling well at all so I spent the lunch break sleeping on my bed.  However, I did not want to stay in the flat so after our lunch break we hit the road again.  We took the car this time in case I needed to come back quickly.  Well we went and visited the entire afternoon and made several trips back to the flat.  Around 4:30 is when I almost died.  We were sitting in a lesson with Francis, a less active member and I thought I was going to die.  I did not feel good at all!  It felt like we were in his house for ages.  When we finally got done I told Elder Saurey that we had to get home immediately!  Man I don’t like being sick.  I thought of Grandpa Ottley because he is very dramatic when he is sick, me too.  We still had a little bit of time until our dinner break and I did not want to call it quits so we went back out.  At 5 we came back for our dinner break and I rested on my bed again.  Unfortunately I fell asleep and didn't wake up until around 6:30.  Again I felt like I was going to die but I didn't want to stay in so we went back out.  We walked to a couple of people who live near our flat, but they were not home.  I felt like I was going to die, but I did not want to go back to the flat.  I then pondered about what my mom would want me to do haha.  I knew she would probably just tell me to humble myself and go back to the flat.  I decided that it would probably just be best for me to go back and take a rest.  So we decided to head back in for the night.  I tried to fall asleep, but couldn't because I had so much pain in my stomach.  My whole body ached, and I really just wanted to fall asleep.  I felt dehydrated.  I felt like it would probably be a good time to get a blessing.  It was just before it was time to get in bed and Elder Saurey was able to give me a blessing.  I was just praying that he would bless me to get better soon.  I really wanted to be able to have my stomach pain go away so I could sleep through the night.  Luckily, Heavenly Father was willing to heal me quickly and Elder Saurey blessed me that the pain would leave soon.  I was so thankful for the blessing and knew that it would allow me to get some sleep.  I layed down and it still hurt really bad.  However, I quickly fell asleep and when I woke up in the morning it didn't hurt anymore.  I was still really achy Sunday, but I felt much better.  I'm so thankful for the priesthood and I know that only in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do we hold the same authority that Jesus Christ held when he was upon the earth.  I know that Peter, James, and John restored this priesthood to Joseph Smith.  Never hesitate to get a blessing! The priesthood can work miracles in our lives, according to Heavenly Father’s will.

Happy 4th of July!!!!!!!!!!!
As crazy as people say America is, I'm still proud to be from the United States.  I'm thankful that I have grown up in a time of religious freedom.  I am thankful to Heavenly Father that I was born when the gospel is on the earth.  I feel like it was just yesterday that it was the 4th and I was preparing for my mission.  I really can't explain how fast my mission has gone.  In less than two weeks I will have been out for a year.  Everyone says that the first year goes by really slow but that the second year flies by.  I can't imagine my mission going any faster!  You might be wondering what we will do to celebrate the 4th of July.  Nothing haha.  Nahh we will just have a pretty normal pday today.  However, we are throwing a surprise bday part for a sister in our Zone.  We will probably just play some bball.  We have been having tons of fun playing basketball on pday.  We go pretty hard haha.  Plus we have some sisters in our zone who are pretty good at basketball.  One of the sisters was a sister that was in my district in the MTC. Her name is sister Hazelett.  We will just play ball at the church and have a big feed haha!
This week was full of some amazing miracles!  I will see how much I can write haha.  On Wednesday we went on an exchange with Elder Van Hauwaert and Elder Tune.  I stayed with Elder Tune in our area and I was super pumped to smash it.  Our area is actually really small, but I was still a little worried about leading the area.  However, Elder Saurey let me choose what area I wanted to work in so I took the challenge of working in our area.  I figured the Lord would provide us with miracles if I worked where I was less comfortable.  If you go on an exchange in another area it is pretty easy because all you have to do is teach.  You don't have to come up with names of people to see.  The exchange started of absolutely insane haha!  So the first place Elder Tune and I went to was an investigator named Tommy, who is the man.  We have only met with Tommy once, but we are really hoping that he comes to church this next week.  Anyway, we tried to see Tommy, but he wasn't home.  So Elder Tune and I decided that we would walk to a potential investigator’s home who lives a little way down the road.  It was a really dark and cloudy day, but it hadn't started raining, so we were not too worried about the rain.  I had on my green raincoat just in case though.  Well we started walking and about 2 minutes into our walk it started absolutely dumping rain!!!!  We wanted to show Heavenly Father our faith so we kept on motoring in the rain, and even stopped and knocked on a couple of doors.  Man people in Seattle think they know rain, but I reckon it is nothing compared to New Zealand.  I wish I had the vocabulary to be able to explain to you how hard it was raining, but it's not even possible haha.  Well we kept walking until we finally got to the potential investigator’s home named Wai.  Wai is in her 20's or 30's and was a lady that we had met when we were out riding our bikes.  We gave her a pamphlet and invited her to our sports nights on Fridays.  However, she didn't come, but we decided to stop by and see if we could teach her.  When we finally arrived to her home we were soaking wet!  It looked like we had jumped into a pool with our church clothes on haha.  The rain was dripping from my hair, and I could barely even see haha.  Well Wai answered the door, but she said she was really busy.  I'm not sure if she was actually busy.  If it were me there would have been no way I would let two soaking wet Elders into my home haha.  We invited her again to the sport night for Friday though and then we went on our way.  Guess what?!!  On Friday she came, and she also brought her less active sister from another ward!  We were so surprised to see her there.  She had a really good time playing basketball, and she was surprisingly pretty good!  Anyway, back to the exchange.  So after we knocked on Wai's door we made the treacherous journey back to the car.  It was still dumping down rain, and we were freezing cold!  As I walked, water seeped out of my shoes.  I practically ruined my shoes in 20 minutes.  Well we finally made it back to the car and blasted the heat.  Next we drove to Gary's and had a lesson with him.  Gary is a 17-year-old boy who has come to church a couple of times.  We taught him a lesson in our soaking wet clothes haha.  After the lesson we decided that we needed to change out of our clothes.  So we drove home and switched clothes really quick, and headed back out to see some miracles.  Elder Tune and I were confident that we were going to see some miracles, because we had worked really hard while it had been raining.  It had also stopped raining so that was our sign that good things were going to happen.  Well what do you know…something good happened.  The highlight of our exchange was knocking doors and finding a man named Peter.  At first when he opened the door he didn't seem too keen.  However, he walked away from the door for a few minutes and then came back and invited us in.  He told us that he had been having back problems for 3 years and nothing was working.  He said that his family had even contemplated moving to the states to try and get better medical care, but they couldn't afford it.  We felt impressed to teach Peter about the priesthood.  We taught him that we held the same power to heal as Jesus Christ did when he was on the earth.  We told him it would be more meaningful if he knew that to be true for himself.  We gave him a restoration pamphlet and invited him to read and pray about our message.  We told him the next time we came around we would follow up with him and give him a blessing.  He committed to do the things we asked him so we were really pumped.  We are hoping to be able to work with him and his family!  It was really cool though that he invited us in.  We very rarely get invited in to someone's home on the first visit.
I have some other miracles to share.  The next miracle happened on Saturday.  Saturday afternoon we took a young man named Gups out.  Gups lives with the Pritchard family a member of our ward.  Their family is Samoan and they are really awesome.  Anyway, Gups is 18 years old and is preparing to serve a mission.  He is the man!  A few weeks ago the Pritchard family gave us a referral to go and see a family who had recently lost two sons in a car accident.  We had tried to visit them several times with Gups, but each time we went we talked to the dad and he said that we could come back another time.  Well once again we went and tried them.  There was no better time that we could have tried them.  The whole family was gone except for the Dad, and he invited us in right away.  I really wish I could explain the lesson play by play.  All I can say was that it was one of the most, if not the most spiritual lesson I have had on my mission.  We taught and testified of the plan of salvation.  We asked him questions and really tried to see where his relationship was at with God.  He had a lot of hurt in his heart because of the loss of his two sons.  He said that he had not prayed since the accident.  He had a lot of emotions in his heart and shared lots of them with us.  It was an amazing lesson and the spirit was so strong.  By the end of the lesson we were able to commit him to get on his knees that night and pray and just talk with God about what had happened, the feelings he expressed with us, and what he was going through.  I love times when the spirit is so strong.  The role of the spirit is to testify of truth, but also to testify of the reality of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.  If you ever question if Heavenly Father is really there and if he loves you, I want you to think of those times that you have felt the spirit.  Every time we feel the spirit that is Heavenly Father's spirit saying that he is there and that he loves us.  I'm so thankful for the Holy Ghost and the comfort and guidance that it can be for us in our lives.
Alright one more miracle haha.  So Saturday night we went to try and visit a potential investigator named Hendon.  Hendon is a Maori fella and is 40 years old and is married and has a two year old girl.  We met Hendon knocking on doors and gave him a restoration pamphlet.  Well Hendon was really busy when we tried, but he told us to come around Sunday afternoon at 12.  When we went around on Sunday he was busy mowing the lawn, he told us to come by at 7 and his wife was going to cook us a feed.  Well we went back at 7 after our dinner appointment.  We tried to eat a light dinner, but we were at a member’s home for dinner.  We were not actually sure if Hendon would feed us anyway.  Well we got to Hendon’s house and sure enough, his wife had cooked us a mean feed!  Guess what it was…boil up!!!!!!!!  It was the first time that I had boil up since I was in Wairoa.  I just realized that I really just need to take a picture of a boil up so I can send it to you.  You might be thinking that the miracle is that we didn't throw up while attempting to finish our feed, but that's not the miracle.  We got to know Hendon and his wife really well though.  His wife has had lots of contact with the church, and has had close relatives serve missions.  She even knew that it was fast Sunday haha!  She is really on to it.  She was really busy with the two year old daughter which was really sad though.  Because the funny thing was she read the pamphlet and Hendon didn't.  We had a really good lesson with Hendon though.  He said that he knew our message was true because he could tell that we were sincere.  We are really excited to teach him and his wife though, and hopefully we can get them baptized!  Hendon is working to be a counselor for youth.  Hendon had a strong addiction to drugs in the past, but has been clean for a long time now, and is trying to help others do the same.  They would both be such good members of the church though!
This next week should be really exciting!  We will get to meet President Cummings on Tuesday!  I'm excited to get to know him, and to see what his vision is for our mission!  I'm sure he will do great things.  I hope you all have a great 4th of July and try not to do anything too crazy!  Kev Bot I hope you get feeling better.  You are the man!
Love,
